Pamlico County Schools is excited to announce its partnership with East Carolina University’s College of Education and its Pirate Leadership Academy. The goal of the Pirate Leadership Academy is to partner with the Northeast Regional Education Service Alliance (NERESA) and the Southeast Education Alliance (SEA) to train and support 32 highly qualified leaders to build leadership capacity and serve schools and school districts in eastern NC.
We are proud to announce that Mrs. Stephanie Nowell and Mrs. Zanquavia Minor have both been accepted into the Pirate Leadership Academy representing Pamlico County Schools.
The Pirate Leadership Academy works with district leaders to nominate the best “proven” teacher leaders, who have not seriously considered entering the principal pipeline due to potential financial costs related to graduate school and the inconveniences of retooling (i.e., money, time, travel commitments, maintaining a work/life balance) to become effective principals for their schools and communities.
Mrs. Nowell, the current assistant principal at Pamlico County Middle School, began her career in Pamlico County Schools as a third grade teacher at Fred A. Anderson Elementary School. She continued for 6 years, teaching third and fourth grades. This is her eleventh year in education. Mrs. Nowell graduated with her bachelors degree from Elizabeth City State University in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. Additionally, she earned a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University in Curriculum and Instruction.
Mrs. Minor, a 2007 Pamlico County High School graduate, began her career in Pamlico County Schools as a teacher assistant at Fred A. Anderson Elementary School. In 2012, she obtained her bachelor's degree in accounting from Fayetteville State University. In 2015, Mrs. Minor joined Pamlico County High School as a mathematics teacher. She currently serves at Pamlico County High School as the Learning Acceleration Coordinator. Mrs. Minor also earned a master’s in Mathematics Education from East Carolina University.
